The Russellville Panther baseball team has had a slow start to the season. They will have a 0-2 start to the season with losses from Bowling Green and Cumberland County. The Panthers fell 10-4 to the Purples on Friday and 1-0 to Cumberland County on Saturday.

The Purples would start the game off with a one run in the first inning and add two more in the top of the second. The Panthers go into the bottom of the second down 0-3. But the Panthers would make a comeback and score three runs in the second. Those included two runs brought in by a double from Zach Denney.

The Purples would score another run in the fourth, but Barrett Croslin would cross the plate to keep the game tied 4-4 going into the fifth inning of the game.

The Purples would take off in the three remaining innings. They would add one run in the fifth, three runs in the second, and hit a home run to bring in two more runs in the seventh. The Panthers would fall 4-10.

“I was pleased with our effort against Bowling Green. I knew we would be a little short on pitching, but the two young guys did ok and kept us in the game until late. That was all I could ask for,” said head coach Greg Shelton. “The Cumberland County game was a huge disappointment. We got an excellent pitching game from Zach Denney, but got absolutely no offense. We just have to continue to work and get better.”

The Panthers will be on the road tonight to face the Muhlenberg Mustangs. The Panthers will play at 5:30.
