The Christian and political debates

Recently there has been a lot of conversation about the Political Debates which are designed to assist the common person to see and understand the differences between those that are running for President of our Nation. Eventually we as Citizens will need to vote and select our future leader.

Back during the Old Testament times there was no debating or voting. There were no campaigning or elections. In the days of Israel’s history there was simply a Prophet of God, divinely inspired and guided, that anointed the future King. The common person simply followed the decision made by God – through the Prophet.

In essence the people of Israel left the responsibility of selecting a new leader in the hands of God. Could we do the same thing today? Could we simply turn off the Television, Computers, i phones and all other media outlets, and leave the decision of our next President in the hands of God? We could but we won’t! What can Christians do during the campaign and election process.

1. Begin now praying for a strong – level headed – committed Christian to be elected.

2. Begin now praying for the other individuals that will surround the newly elected President to also be strong – level headed – committed Christians.

3. Become educated – for God would not have us to be ignorant Citizens or Voters.

3. Be open minded – and sensitive to the Holy Spirits guiding, not to be Democrat or Republican – but to support and vote for God’s choice and not yours!

BUT – in the midst of all the hype about the future – Please do not forget the present!!!! We as Christians must be faithful to pray for the current administration from the President down, including our own local officials.

I Timothy 2:1-2 states, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
