Gee Whiz. Woke up in the night, then again this morning to the roar of the heat pump. It’s running solid. I can just imagine the electric bill for this month. And speaking of electricity, all my electric clocks were blinking again. This is one of my pet peeves, so much so that I have kept count. I just reset my clocks for the ninth time in one year. Because of the low voltage when it came back up, hope no one had major damage. Oh well, such is life.
Note to all, the Senior Center is open and maintaining their schedule. While realizing that the temperature is keeping a lot of folks inside where they are warm, dry, and safe, the center is open as well. If you have doubts or questions, give them a call from 9 am to 1 pm at 270-542-8223.
Next week’s schedule is a light day on Monday, with puzzles, and couponing, where everyone brings their newspaper and magazine ads. The new Tai Chi exercise program starts Tuesday Jan.28. This is a six week course of twelve sessions on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:00 am. Following the introductory class on this Tuesday is a Diabetes Class at 11:00 am. taught by Melissa Walden of Barren River Diabetes Center of Excellence.
Wednesday is bingo and potluck lunch. After the Tai Chi class on Thursday, there will be an informative talk on protein in the Diet. Close out the week on Friday with dominos, movie and popcorn in front of the fireplace. Coffee and fellowship is there every day.
Get Ready for Friday night, Feb.14. There will be a Valentine’s Day Dance at the center, from 6 to 9 pm. Potluck dinner served at intermission. Please bring sandwiches and/or desserts. Music furnished by Old Habits. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Cost is $3.00 per person. Think red, white, or pink.
I stopped in for a chat with Tiggers Social Club at Glen’s Hardware. Wish we could convince these fellows to come visit the center on occasions. They provide lots of interesting tales of Auburn and its people.
As of this writing Auburn natives, Billy Cardwell, Shirley Soyars and myself are having a number of cardiac tests and procedures done. I’m a believer in prayers, so if you are too, remember us. Thanks.
Two reminders of things to come. Don’t forget the beginning of February you must include the area code when dialing local phone numbers. Only add the 1 (country code) if your call is a long distance call. This includes cell phones and means you will need to reprogram your phone book.
Also Valentine’s Day is coming up in two week. February 14 is on a Friday, which means restaurants are always crowded. You might want to call for reservations. Movies will be crowded too, but some theatres provide advance purchase at times.
As for Auburn, gift certificates can be purchased at Main Street Salon, Repeat Boutique, Wholesale2U, Yard Sale Shop and Main Drag. Even the Auburn Restaurant and Pool Room, however they will not be open on Friday evenings. You might also check with Federal Grove and Shaker Tavern to see if dinner reservations are possible. Various baked goodies ordered in advance are available from Country Side Bake Shop and Patricia at the Yard Sale makes great fudge. Orders for this will also need to be in advance. Dollar General will have a variety of single rose buds for the last minute “Sweetheart I Didn’t Forget” item.
I may still be medically occupied next week, so take care. Keep yourself warm and make sure your pets are also warm and dry with fresh unfrozen water and food. Each of you have a blessed day.
