People I have fallen into the commercial trap! I walked into my favorite store and there he was……yep, it was Santa Claus! The cutest little guy I have seen lately.
I went on about my business and selected all the things I had on my list. Even pushed my basket right by the cute little guy a few times; but on the last time around I looked at him and I just COULDN’T STAND IT. I just had to pick up the little guy and put him in my basket. I even picked up a big bag of cotton to put around his feet. Santa would look kinda stupid if he were just sitting on my front porch without snow.
Well, you can’t imagine what happened when I got home with this cute little guy. Really he wasn’t a “CUTE LITTLE GUY”! He was a “CUTE GREAT BIG GUY!” When I pulled up in my car, the Hubby said, “Where on earth did he come from? He was sitting in the front seat just like a real person so the entire world could see. I asked him if he would believe that I was just driving down the road and he just “jumped in my car”. Of course he just turned and walked away, leaving me to get him out of the car all by myself.
I took him into the house and said; you know how it is, I just walked into the Dollar Store and there he stood, just smiling with his happy face. Would you believe he just jumped into my cart? No way, the Hubby replied, “I know how you are when it comes to Christmas”. Why is it that Santa Claus always catches your heart? You can believe I have him placed in the corner of my den and he will join all the other things I have to decorate with on the day after Thanksgiving.
I don’t know how this became the official date for me to put out Christmas decorations. You know I have driven down the road and there are Christmas Lights twinkling on the outside of houses in the summer. They must have flipped on the wrong switch. Now this is a little much. But not me, I do control myself and do not put out anything until November.
Then the Hubby had to bring up a subject “long forgotten”; my Charlie Brown Christmas tree. You know the little stick tree he found out in the woods and put decorations all over it. Well, I did that one year and as I received my Christmas Cards from all my friends, I would hang them on the tree and I would remember all my great friends. But of course people don’t send Christmas Cards anymore. That has passed by the “wayside” just like a lot of other Christmas traditions. I think that is what Christmas is all about ‘TRADITION”. I hope all of you are establishing traditions in your family. That is the reason for the season.
Back to the subject at hand, the Hubby said I guess you want me to start getting all those decorations out of the attic again. It is getting really close to Thanksgiving. I want you to know that it is really hard to get the Hubby in the Christmas Spirit. He said it always means work for him. One thing that is strange, the minute I get everything out and in its place he always says, “Man WE did a great job”!
My suggestion to you is, if you go to the Dollar Store and see that cute Santa Claus standing there smiling at you; just give him a hand, it is really hard to jump in a cart! Believe me you will be glad when you get him home. I am sure he will get you into the Christmas spirit and steal your heart. Also when you drive down the road and see a BIG Santa Claus waving at you; you can say,” I bet that is where Tulip Green lives”.
During this season, I would like to ask that each and every one of you reach out to those people you know that do not have a family. Also those that are sick and seriously ill. One especially is my friend, Tweedy Dee who lived in Lewisburg and now is very ill in Ohio. I was contacted by her through my e-mail address. She is a delightful person she needs your prayers each day. Help someone during the holidays; this will be the greatest gift of all.
Till next time, this is Tulip Green saying, BYE NOW.
