It is September 11th twelve years after the attack on our Country. Did you notice I said OUR country? I truly hope you look upon this country in this manner. So many of us don’t give what goes on in our country a thought. It belongs to you and me and we need to let the people that we send to Washington to represent us know that fact. They are there to represent us! Well, I guess you all are shocked to see old TG get on her soap box but sometimes it just hits me, I have to tell you what I think.
Where were you on this day in history? Today I sit in my favorite rocker, remembering what I was doing that day. I was at work and all of a sudden a co-worker came into my office and said “we are under attack”! I thought she was out of her mind. How on earth would you know that I asked her? She said “my husband is in the Air National Guard and his unit just left the ground to join with all the other persons who would be needed. We finally located an office with a television and we sat and watched as most of you did also. That thing that we thought could never happen, HAPPENED!
Today as I listened to the names of those who died, I realized I did not know anyone involved in any of the attacks. I really don’t know what I would have done if I had family involved. I have endured death in my family but not at the hands of anyone else. Young children that must have been just babies when this happened; say their family member’s name, as tears run down their cheeks. One young boy said, “Dad, I will always miss you”! That’s when tears ran down my cheeks. How do you go through your life when you know that this happened to your father? Obviously they made it through. All we can do for them is pray for strength that it will carry them through the rest of their life.
I think this is good that we are reminded of all the things that happened that day. Remember how important each member of our family is to us. Take a moment and thank God that it was not you or anyone else you know that was involved in this tragedy.
This afternoon when your family gathers for dinner bring it to their attention how special each one is to you. So many times when a member of our family leaves home we never know if we will see them again. Get ready everyone, I am going to say my ever famous line, “enjoy the moment” because that is all they have. We never know what the future holds.
You just had the opportunity to see the “serious side” of old TG. Young children “pull at my heart strings”. I wanted to reach out right through my television and give that young boy a great big “HUG”. I challenge each of you to give a few people in your life a big HUG today! I promise they will love you for it.
As I have said many, many times, till next time this is Tulip Green saying, “BYE NOW.”
