Thirty children of local power company employees received scholarships during the annual TVA/Power Distributor Scholarship Association’s awards luncheon.
Scholarship recipients are high school seniors who submitted applications and have been recognized for outstanding academic performance, demonstrate a commitment to community service and have parents who are employed by local power companies.
Among those who received scholarships is Adam Wilkins. Adam is a 2014 graduate of Logan County High School, and plans to attend Western Kentucky University. He is the son of Mark & Jane Wilkins. Mark is employed by Pennyrile Electric in the Russellville Office.
Funds are provided through membership fees from the TVA/Power Distributor Scholarship Association, Local Power Companies, vendors, TVA, and money raised at the annual weekend event that includes an evening fundraiser and day-long Power Play Golf Tournament.
Since the program was established in 1995, 447 scholarships have been awarded. This year, out of 126 applicants, thirty students were selected to receive individual $4,000 scholarships – for a total of $120,000 in awards presented.
