Community Action of Southern Kentucky’s Head Start Program is now accepting applications for enrollment for the 2014-2015 program year. The Head Start program small children from families who qualify as low income. In addition, a percentage of Head Start funded slots are for children with disabilities.

The Head Start program, which formed in 1965, is a program of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. The program’s services and resources are designed to foster stable family relationships, enhance children’s physical and emotional well-being, and establish an environment to develop strong cognitive skills.

Logan County’s Head Start program is located in the historic Knob City School building on Morgantown Road. The Head Start program is operated by local non-profit organizations in almost every county in the country. Most children in Head Start are between the ages of three and five years old.

Head Start not only offers an excellent educational experience, but many other services as well. The program offers free meals provided at the school for students, parent involvement and training opportunities, services to children with disabilities, transportation, a migrant program, free daycare on Fridays from ages 6 weeks-4 years for those families enrolled in the program, screening to assess your child’s strengths, and professionals to arrange vision and hearing testing and immunizations.

Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. The Head Start staff recognize that, as parents, you are the first and most important teachers of your children. They welcome your involvement in activities and will work as partners with you to help your children progress.

Parents or guardians who wish to apply for enrollment must provide proof of income and verification of the child’s birth.

To apply, call 270-726-9470 or feel free to visit the Logan County Head Start at 320 Peyton St. in Russellville.
