During the month of April, Logan County Public Library’s “Healthy Living” series will focus on nutrition with video lectures by professor Roberta H. Anding. The library plans to make this a monthly event or class after April, says Tracy Houchens, library Adult Programming Coordinator.
“The idea of this is to pass on ideas, recipes, and information to help everyone discover ‘Healthy Living,’” says Houchens.
The video series that will be showcased in April was loaned to the library by Dr. Jim Dodson and Jean Oberhausen.
The series will begin April 1 from 6-7 p.m. The topic will be, “Why We Eat What We Do.” There will be fact or fiction sources of nutrition. The on April 8 from 6-7:30 p.m. “Not All Carbohydrates Are Created Equal.” This topic will give you facts on fiber, protein- an indispensable nutrient. On April 15, the focus will be on “Vitamins” from 6-7 p.m. spotlighting on vitamin C; vitamin E, the fallen hero, and vitamin D, the rising star. On April 22 from 6-7:30 p.m. “Cardiovascular Disease” will be covered and you will learn what are the risks, and a heart healthy lifestyle. Rounding up the month, April 29 from 6-7 p.m. :Healthy Weight Management” will be discussed as well as dietary approaches to weight management.
Healthy snacks will be provided at these events.
“We are looking forward to expanding our Adult Programming services at the library and helping people find healthy ways to live,” said Houchens.
Houchens wants community input into this series. She is open to ideas other may have about learning to become more healthy.
