Independent author and Russellville resident Douglas Daech received good news earlier this month. His first e-book, a collection of short stories titled Time Travel and Dimensional Journeys, has surpassed a milestone 600 downloads! The online retailer Smashwords.com sells and distributes the e-book over the internet for Nook, Kindle, Sony and other e-reading devices including Apple. It distributes to book sellers world wide and the Russellville author can even be found on foreign language websites. Every day more readers download a copy of the book making the sky the limit.

Currently Smashwords has over 290,000 titles available with 39,000 of them priced free. Mr Daech has offered his e-book free for over the last year and has seen downloads steadily increase. Every day the site offers reports to the author showing their page views and sales. Authors can easily adjust pricing, track sales, and update promotions. Smashwords is user friendly for readers too, allowing them to create digital libraries and rate the books they have read. Mr. Daech’s five start rated book will remain free at Smashwords while his second e-book, Haunted Romance, released in October of 2013 costs a low ninety-nine cents.

Haunted Romance offers the story of high school student, Tori Clark. In the book, she and her mother are starting over. They’ve moved to a new town and they have a new home. Things are different for them, but Tori never expected to be sharing her bedroom with a ghost! Tori and the ghost work to solve an historic local cold case murder mystery. Along the way, a haunted romance forms between them. A love story spanning thirty years and crossing from life to death plays out as justice is brought to the murderer who still lives just around the corner.

Haunted Romance has been available for six months at Smashwords. A recent e-book week promotion saw a rush of forty downloads in seven days. There are hopes for just as much excitement over the release of his next e-book titled, Seedy Hills, an odd little town, which is scheduled to release in August of 2014. Preordering will start in June at smashwords.com and other online retailers. This book consists of a collection of stories that takes place in a rural Kentucky town called Seedy Hills, so named after the summer wild flowers that cover the hills around the town. Vampires, Ghosts, UFOs murders and more paint a picture of a very strange place. All of the stories are tied together by the main character, Eric Green. Eric is a reporter for the local newspaper. He’s a stubborn, arrogant, self centered semi-retired writer who thinks he knows it all. Maybe he does, because with his connections, keen smell for a good story and hard work, he always solves the case and saves the day. Through the series of short stories Eric learns about life, love and the fact that he and other people have feelings. Late in life the rusty old reporter learns that being from an odd little, run down town may not be all that bad.

Mr. Deach has been writing fiction for years but until his association with Smashwords has been mostly out of the public’s eye with only a few magazine publications and a second place award in a 2007 Frank and Cellia Conley Writing Contest at Western Kentucky University. Now with the help of the internet people from around the world can read his work. With books that are priced free or for only a dollar wealth is not his goal. This Russellville author just wants to entertain and tell a story.
