Dear Editor:

April 13-19 is National Library Week. Logan County is privileged to have a new library designed to meet the needs of our community. This would be a good opportunity to visit the new facility and take advantage of the many resources there: print, electronic, and a knowledge staff willing to assist. There is a well-organized local history room and old issues of the News Democrat/Logan Leader are readily available to read in the traditional hard copy format.

This month the library is offering a Health Series on Tuesday evenings for adults which is graciously funded by Dr. Jim Dodson and Jean Oberhausen. Other programs include story hours, book clubs, SnackCraft, and the annual Book It 4 Your Library 4K race. All of these programs are free. Not only can you easily find parking, but a person can return items from the either side of their vehicle. The facility is also handicapped accessible.

In the the movie, A Field of Dreams, Kevin Costner hears a voice saying “Build it and he will come.” In Logan County a group had a dream, and to paraphrase the great American novelist William Faulkner this group of dedicated individuals not only persevered, they prevailed! This dream for a new and much needed library has been realized, and Logan Countians have come!

Since the new library opened on February 3rd the library has had over 24,000 people enter and almost 500 new library cards have been issued. A hearty thank you goes to those who had the vision and worked to make our new library a reality. So, next week stop by your local library or even one of our public school libraries and wish the staff a Happy National Library Week!
