Dear Editor:

How many Americans have even heard of an Electro-Magnetic Pulse? How many know that 12 months after being struck by an EMP, only one American in 10 will still be alive?

An EMP is a disturbance of the earth’s atmosphere, originating as a solar flare or as the result of a specially constructed bomb. An EMP can disrupt anything that requires electricity to function or control. That means that an EMP can fry electrical wiring and batteries in your home, auto, radio, phone, computer and right down to the pacemaker in your chest and the hearing aid in your ear.

It will take down the entire power grid and the Internet. The pumps that push water through our sewage treatment plants and then to our homes, pumps at our gasoline stations, and the pumps that cool our nuclear energy plants will simply burn up. Americans will begin to die in the dark in hospitals where heat, water, electricity - their life-support - are all suddenly gone. Americans will begin to die in their homes and in the streets when nuclear plants melt down, sanitation breaks down, there is no transportation, no ambulances, no police, no 911, and citizens cannot escape thirst, starvation, disease and violence from civil unrest.

We are not talking about a power outage that can be fixed in a few hours or a few days. There is no way to replace or repair the damage before hundreds of millions die.

EMP bombs have been discussed since the 1980s. It is believed that North Korea and Iran are pushing ahead with design and delivery technology for these weapons and in 2010 the Koreans are believed to have tested a missile capable of delivering such a device. Russia and China are well versed in this technology, most likely already have these weapons and have hardened their power grids to protect their own existences. The United States has not.

Why not? Congress says the 20 billion dollar price tag to insure our safety and America’s survival is just too much.

The cost of the ObamaPhone program is about 2.2 billion per year. The report of the Inspector General for the U.S. Treasury states that 4.2 billion was spent just in 2010 on IRS payments to illegal aliens. The IRS says it doesn’t have the authority to stop these payments.

Had our government put those $4.6 billion each year for the past three years toward hardening our power grid, we could all breathe a bit easier. But they didn’t.

I guess those Obama phones and tax refunds to illegal aliens are just too important. Better to just let nine out of 10 Americans die instead.
