The Russellville High School football team wrapped up its preseason program last week with its annual scrimmage against Glasgow at Rhea Stadium.
The Panthers will now spend this week getting ready for the kickoff the regular season and the first real opponent - Trigg County. Last year Russellville opened the season with a 41-21 win over Trigg County on the way to a successful 10-3 season and will be hoping for a similar start to the season this year.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Panthers will continue the regular season next Friday night at Fort Campbell before playing their next game games either at home - or close to home. RHS hosts Butler County on Sept. 5 and then plays at Logan County in the annual ‘Clash of the Cats’ on Sept. 12.
The Logan County football team will be starting its first season under coach Steve Duncan this week as well. The Cougars will be at home Friday night against traditional rival Butler County. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Last year, Logan County lost 47-0 to Butler County en route to a winless season. Hopes are high that this will be the first game in a rebound season for the Cougars under the direction of their new coach.
LCHS will spend the next two weeks on the road against regional foes South Warren and Franklin-Simpson before returning home on Sept. 12 against arch-rival Russellville.
