The Logan County Lady Cougar basketball team ended their season on Wednesday night in the 4th region tournament. The Lady Cougars faced the South Warren Lady Spartans in the first round of the tournament. The Lady Cougars played a close first half, but the Lady Spartans would pull away to take the win of 58-48.


The Lady Cougars and the Lady Spartans would begin the game close in score. The two teams would tie the game 4-4 with four minutes left in the quarter. The Lady Spartans would take a lead of 10-6 with two minutes to go, but the Lady Cougars would end the first quarter only down 8-10.


The Lady Cougars would start the second quarter out strong and take the lead early in the quarter and hold it most of the quarter. The Lady Spartans would fight back to take the lead with two minutes to go. The Lady Spartan defense would keep the Lady Cougars from scoring for the rest of the quarter. The Lady Cougars would trail 15-21 at the half.


The Lady Cougars would stay close to the Lady Spartans for the first part of the third quarter, but the Lady Spartans would take off. With five minutes left in the quarter the Lady Spartans would hold a 11 point lead over the Lady Cougars. The Lady Cougars would come back within six points, but the Lady Spartans would end the quarter with a 41-29 lead.


The Lady Spartans would hold about a 10 point lead throughout the entire fourth quarter. The Lady Cougars would fight hard, but the Lady Spartans would not stray from their lead. The Lady Cougars would fall 48-58.


Senior Laura Hunt led the Lady Cougars with 15 points. Maegann Hardison followed with 13 points. Brooke Barnes finished with seven, senior Megan Lindsey with six, senior Katelyn Jones with four, Cierra Johnson with two and Logan Williamson with one.


The Lady Cougars would end their season with a 13-15 record, including the win that would claim the 13th district championship title.


The Russellville Panthers will compete in their 4th region tournament game against Monroe County this Saturday night. The game will be held at Barren County High School and their game will begin around 8:00 p.m.
