The Logan County Lady Cougars will head to the Fourth Region tournament this week as the 13th district champions. The Lady Cougars faced the Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats on Thursday night in the championship game and would take over the game from the beginning. After a long battle, the Lady Cougars would come out on top with a 47-38 win over the Lady Wildcats.


The Lady Cougars would have a great beginning to the game and would take the lead early. Halfway through the quarter, the Lady Cougars would lead 8-2. By the end of the quarter, the Lady Cougar defense would hold the Lady Wildcats to only five points and would lead with 12.


Both teams would battle through the beginning of the second quarter, but the Lady Cougars would continue to hold on to their lead. The Lady Cougars would fight and get up to a 12 point lead, but the Lady Wildcats would fight back. The Lady Cougars would end the half with a lead of 24-15.


The Lady Wildcats would start climbing in the third quarter and gain on the Lady Cougars lead. With two minutes left in the quarter, the Lady Wildcats would come back to tie the game 29-29 and then take a one point lead shortly after. But with second left on the clock, Maegann Hardison would shoot a three-point shot to put the Lady Cougars up 34-31 at the end of the third.


The fourth quarter would begin with three Lady Wildcats fouling out of the game. The Lady Cougars would use this to their advantage and start to pull away again. With a few minutes left in the game, the Lady Wildcats would tail behind six points, but the Lady Cougars would hold their lead. The Lady Cougars would win the championship game 47-38.


Maegann Hardison would lead the Lady Cougars with 16 points. Brooke Barnes would follow with eight points and senior Katelyn Jones with six. Taleia Mason and senior Laura Hunt would finish the game with five points each. Senior Megan Lindsey and Cierra Johnson finished the game with two points each.


The Lady Cougars will now head to the 4th region tournament. Because of the weather, the Lady Cougars game has been moved to Wednesday night at 7:30. The Lady Cougars will face the South Warren Lady Spartans.
