The Russellville Lady Panther basketball team ended their season on Monday night in the semifinal game in the district tournament. The Lady Panthers faced the Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats, who was the number one seed in the district. The Lady Panthers would fall quickly in the first half of the game and end the night with a 71-32 loss.
The Lady Panthers would have a good start to the game and their defense would be able to hold the Lady Wildcats. But after a few minutes, the Lady Wildcats would break through and end the first quarter with a lead of 17-8.
The Lady Panthers would come out to the second quarter and put up four quick points, putting them behind the Lady Wildcats by only five points. But the Lady Wildcats offense would go on a big run and end the second quarter with a lead of 34-16.
The Lady Wildcats offense would continue to take off in the third quarter of the game. The Lady Panthers would put up some points, but they would still fall way back from the Lady Wildcats during the quarter. The Lady Wildcats would continue with a lead of 52-26 at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Panthers kept working hard, but the Lady Wildcats would continue to increase the gap. With four minutes left in the game, their lead would cause a running clock. The Lady Panthers would end the game with a 39 point loss of 32-71.
Senior Khalia Hampton led the Lady Panthers with 17 points. She was followed by Loreal Chaney with six. Senior Devonna Sydnor and Devonya Bryant finished the game with three points each. Deshale LeBlance ended the game with two points and senior Shea Hampton finished with one.
The Lady Panthers end their season with a record of 2-20 with wins over Trigg County and Fort Campbell.
