The Logan County basketball teams faced Allen County-Scottsville on Tuesday night. The Lady Cougars fell 71-44 to the Lady Patriots. The Cougars had an exciting game that would go into double overtime. The Cougars fought hard and were able to pull through with a 83-80 win over the Patriots.
The Lady Cougars had a slow start to their game against the Lady Patriots. The Lady Cougars would play hard, but the Lady Patriots would end the first half with a lead of 20-13. The Lady Cougars were able to score 10 points in the second quarter, but the Lady Patriots would continue with their lead. The Lady Cougars would trail 23-37 at the end of the second quarter.
The Lady Patriots would have a great start to the third quarter, scoring 13 straight points in the first three minutes of the quarter with a lead of 50-23. The Lady Cougars would turn it up but the Lady Patriots would end the third quarter with a 30 point lead of 61-31.
The Lady Cougars would end the fourth quarter scoring 13 points against the Lady Patriot 10, but the Lady Patriots lead would give them the 71-44 victory.
Senior Laura Hunt would lead the Lady Cougars with 11 points. Maegann Hardison would follow with nine points and Brooke Barnes with eight.
The Cougars would play next and would start the game off behind the Patriots. They would trail 12-18 at the end of the first quarter. Halfway through the second quarter, the Cougars would take the lead and keep it. The Patriots fought hard but the Cougars would walk away with a 25-24 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was intense for both teams. They both battled hard but they would keep the game close in points. They would end the third quarter with a tie of 45-45. In the fourth quarter, the Cougars would start to pull away from the Patriots and gain a six point lead, but the Patriots were not ready to give up. The two teams would end the game with a tie of 59-59 as they went into overtime.
The Patriots would have a good start in overtime and score several points early, putting them in the lead. The Cougars were down three points with only seconds to go when Ben Wright hit a three-point shot. His shot would tie the game 72-72, sending the Cougars into a double overtime.
This time, the Cougars would have a good start and gain a four point lead early. The Patriots would fight hard, but the Cougars would make most of the free throws and have a three point lead at the end of the quarter. The Patriots would try and hit a three at the last second but they would miss. The Cougars would win the game 83-80.
Ben Wright led the Cougars with 29 points. Senior Landon Stratton would follow with 20 points and senior J.R. Morrow would finish with 14 points.
The Logan County teams will travel to Todd County tonight. The Lady Cougars will play at 6:00 and the Cougars will play around 7:30.
