The Logan County Cougars got their first win of the season on Friday night over their rivals the Russellville Panthers. The Cougars took control of the game early and were able to pull through with a 81-75 win over the Panthers.
The two teams battled hard as they began the first quarter. The Panthers would end up taking the lead and end the quarter with a lead of 20-15 over the Cougars. The Cougars continued to battle and would eventually take the lead and pull away from the Panthers and end the first half with a lead of 36-31.
Early in the third quarter, the Panthers would tie the game at 36-36 and threaten Cougars lead. The Cougars would quickly turn around the game and be able to maintain a small lead over the Panthers. They would end the third quarter with a 57-50 lead over the Panthers.
The Panthers fought hard in the last quarter of the game and would make some good plays, but the Cougars would not give up their lead as they took their first victory of the year with a 81-75 win.
Ben Wright would lead the Cougars with 25 points. Seniors Clint Knight and Landon Stratton would end the game with 14 points each. Taylor Blakemore would follow with 12 points.
Lee McMurry would lead the Panthers with 17 points. McMurry was followed by senior Barrett Croslin and Pedro Rivera with 16 points each.
The Panthers will travel to Christian County this Friday and play at 7:30. The Cougars will head to Butler County tonight and will play at 7:30.
