The 13th district volleyball tournament was held at Franklin-Simpson high school on Thursday. The Logan County Lady Cougars and the Russellville Lady Panthers both competed for the district title. The Russellville Panthers would fall 2-3 (26-24, 23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 13-15) in the semifinal game against the Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats. The Lady Cougars would get big wins over the Todd County Central Lady Rebels and the Lady Wildcats to win their 11th straight district title.

The Lady Cougars faced the Lady Rebels in the first game of the district tournament. The Lady Cougars would breeze through the three games and get big wins of 25-6, 25-3 and 25-10 to win the match 3-0. With the win, the Lady Cougars advanced on to the championship game that would be played later that night.

Chanler Steenbergen led the Lady Cougars with 14 kills. Katelyn Jones followed with six. Senior Rachyl Miller finished the game with 16 aces and was followed by Amber Carroll with 10. Steenbergen had three solo blocks and Jones finished with two.

The Lady Panthers would face the Lady Wildcats during the semi-final game of the tournament. The Lady Panthers and the Lady Wildcats would spend most of the first game tied up but the Lady Panthers would pull out a 26-24 win. The Lady Panthers would fight hard but they would fall in the second game 23-25.

The third game the Lady Panthers would keep a small lead throughout most of the game and would come out on top with a 25-22 win. The Lady Wildcats were not ready to give it up and would come back in the fourth game to win 25-23. This would force the teams into a tie-breaking game.

The Lady Panthers would start the game off with a lead, but would make several mistakes late in the game, resulting in a 13-15 loss to the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Cougars would then face the Lady Wildcats in the district championship game. The Lady Cougars would play hard and dominate the three games against the Lady Wildcats. The final scores for the games were 25-7, 25-7 and 25-5. The Lady Cougars then would claim their 11th straight district title.

Steenbergen would lead in kills again with 11. She was followed by Katelyn Jones and Brianna Wooden who each had five. Senior Madison Abbot would finish the game with eight aces, followed by Carroll with seven.

The Logan County Lady Cougars will host the region 4 tournament this week. If they win their game against the Allen-County Scottsville Lady Patriots, they will advance on to the semifinals on Wednesday.
