Judges at Kentucky Rural Water Association’s Management Conference, held Feb. 19-20, at the Sloan Convention Center and Holiday Inn University Plaza Hotel in Bowling Green, have identified the top three samples of best tasting water. On Feb. 20, 2014, East Logan Water District placed third in a statewide competition to identify the tastiest water in Kentucky for 2014. A panel of six judges from various sectors of the water and wastewater industry included David Stumbo, Division of Occupational Safety & Health Education & Training; Matt Curtis, Kentucky Engineering Group (a KRWA Diamond Corporate Partner); Kim Young, F & E Payment Pros; Mark Davis, Eastern Kentucky PRIDE; Teresa Faulkner, Neace Lukens; and Jeff Merman, Automatic Controls Company selected East Logan Water District’s water sample as third best in this popular contest for the best tasting water in Kentucky. Lewisport Municipal Water Works came in first with second place given to Allen County Water District. East Logan Water District provides drinking water to 2,933 homes, businesses and industry.

Water districts, water associations, and municipal utilities from around Kentucky submitted samples of their water, straight from the tap. This year’s conference, attended by nearly 350 representatives from water and wastewater utilities and related industries, heard from knowledgeable sources offering their perspectives and experience on leadership and an introduction of the newly established Utility Leadership Institute (ULI). Industry professionals were on hand to demonstrate the best and latest in supplies, materials, and services appropriate for water and wastewater utilities’ needs.

Each year, the winner of this contest represents Kentucky in the national Best Tasting Water Contest in Washington, D.C., during the Rural Water Rally, an annual legislative event for the state affiliates of the National Rural Water Association. The competition is part of the Quality on Tap! campaign — emphasizing the high quality, great value and exceptional taste of America’s public drinking water.

“We at Logan Todd Regional Water Commission are very proud of our partner at East Logan Water for managing their system and placing top 3 in the state in the Ky Rural Water Association’s Best Tasting Water contest. Way to go guys!” John Walton, Director of Marketing, Logan-Todd Regional Water Commission.
