An officer of the Russellville Police Department was hit while in his cruiser when responding to a disturbance call at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

According to reports, officer Seth Whittaker was responding to a disturbance in progress on 9th Street with his emergency lights and siren activated. When he entered the intersection on 9th and Nashville streets, a 2011 Toyota Camry, being operated by 22-year-old Erica Cassady of Smiths Grove, was eastbound and collided with Whittaker.

Officer Whittaker sustained numerous injuries and was transported by ambulance to Logan Memorial Hospital for treatment. At the time of the report, officer Whittaker was listed in stable condition. Cassady reported no injuries.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage. The accident is being investigated by Captain David Kitchens of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department. Kitchens was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Clint Wright and deputies Seth Williford and Rob Bubacz of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department.
