No one can deny that child obesity is a problem among young people, Kentucky has one of the highest prevalence for pediatric obesity in the nation. Physical education class at schools may serve as the single source of exercise for some children and is an important part of student development at Lewisburg School. Lewisburg’s rock climbing wall is an exciting option for students at Lewisburg. Rock climbing is an activity that will engage and challenge kids of all ages, sizes, and skills, offering students an alternative to regular workouts that challenges their problem-solving abilities as much as their physical strength.

“Our students absolutely love the wall, they love the challenge and as a teacher I love to see them get out of their comfort zone, said Lewisburg PE teacher Chris Pyles.

Physical education at Lewisburg has a focus on lifetime fitness for every student, not just the “natural athletes.” Rock climbing is a dynamic activity that is attractive to a diversity of people—even those not typically interested in physical activity. Climbing provides opportunities to build physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills.
