It’s been three years since Logan County was officially declared a “County of Character” and the local CharacterWorks program will be celebrating that this weekend with the annual special anniversary event.
The celebration will be Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the new Logan County Public Library on Armory Drive.
“We want all of the Logan County and Russellville students to come out,” said Lisa White, the director of Logan County CharacterWorks. “Every year we are going to have a reboost event like this. We want it to increase public awareness of what we’re doing.”
This is the first of two such events that are planned for this school year.
“We want to have two per year, one in winter and one in summer,” White said. “We are going to have a ceremony and recognize these kids of character. We will be working with the school districts to provide acknowledgement for those students that deserve it.”
CharacterWorks is a campaign that is focusing on character development of our youth and families of Logan County. CharacterWorks will provide support and recognize our youth that exhibit strong character such as self-control, initiative, patience and respect.
Each month, Logan County highlights a specific character trait. Watch for signs throughout Logan County that display the character word for the month.
Throughout each month, businesses, organizations, the newspaper and radio, the churches and schools will focus on the character trait. The citizens of Logan County will see the character word on signs, emails and newsletters.
This year’s event will have musical performances from Emma McReynolds, Skyler Hale and Garret Kimmel, free hot dogs, popcorn, a water slide and other games and activities.
Each month White sends out a CharacterWorks newsletter about the program. If you would like to be added to the email list, you can request it by emailing her at email@example.com.
“I’d love for individuals to start getting involved in their own way with the program,” White said.
CharacterWorks purpose is to provide a unified focus on supporting and recognizing our young leaders of tomorrow. Through a strong mission, our youth will benefit because they will realize that having strong character is so important to one’s success that our entire county is behind CharacterWorks.
