Failing to stop and make the turn right from West 4th Street around the square in Russellville Monday, Dec. 19, a man kept going and ran his car straight through the square knocking down two light poles and destroying a park bench before stopping in front of the 4th Street Theater.

Russellville Mayor Mark Stratton, who was in his office at the time, heard a loud boom and wondered what had happened. He and city facilities director Kenny Gregory, as well as street supervisor Jason Henderson, took to the square to assess the damage.

“We have to clear this out and make way for Santa’s visit this evening,” said mayor Stratton, who was shocked at what just occurred. “Who knows,” said the mayor. “It seems he just didn’t let up and kept a going.”

More on what happened with and to the man when news comes in.
