On Tuesday, June 30, the Logan County Democratic Women’s Club held a cookout to honor the two young men who were awarded the 2014-2015 scholarships. The two winners were Derrick Porter and Andrew White.
Derrick is a graduate of Russellville High School. He is the son of Donnie and Polly Porter. He plans to attend Western Kentucky University in the fall majoring in biology. He will be working toward a future degree in medicine. His essay emphasized the need for every citizen to have and to execute his right to vote.
Andrew is a graduate of Logan County High School. He is the son of Kevin and Annelle White. He plans to attend Lipscomb University in Nashville in the fall majoring in music education. His essay emphasized human kindness for those who are considered “equal” but “not as equal” in our society.
Both graduates displayed not only academic prowess, but also their deep love for others through many hours of volunteer service through their church, school and clubs.
The Democrats in Logan County are proud of these young men and wish them much success in the future.
