Elkton man found to be in possession of several illegal drugs

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at 2342 hours, deputy Jarrod Lyons with the Logan County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop on a 1995 Buick Lesabre for speeding 83 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Deputy Lyons made contact with the driver, Rex C. Oakes, 51, of Elkton.

Further investigation of the traffic stop revealed Oakes to be in possession of a firearm that was reported stolen out of Madison. Oakes is a convicted felon. and is unable to possess any firearms. Oakes was also found to be in possession of several illegal drugs and items of illegal drug paraphernalia.

Oakes was lodged in the Logan County Detention Center under charges of Speeding 17 mph Over Limit; Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm); Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Methamphetamine); 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Drug Unspecified); Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container 1st Offense.
