RPD to crack down on drunk drivers


Working with law enforcement agencies across Kentucky, the Russellville Police Department will take part through heightened enforcement activities in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic mobilization period which will run from Aug. 19th through Sept. 5th to coincide with Labor Day weekend.

This increased traffic enforcement is made possible through grant funding from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS). During 2015 throughout Kentucky, some 18.7 percent of traffic fatalities involved alcohol and/or drugged driving meaning 142 lives lost due to impaired drivers.

The Russellville Police Department will be participating in this effort to save lives across the Bluegrass by identifying impaired drivers throughincreased traffic enforcement.

Additionally from Sept. 2nd through Sept. 5th, the Russellville Police Department will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints. The following locations will be possible checkpoint sites from 8PM til 2AM during those dates: North Main St., KY 100, US 431 North, US 431 South, US 68 East, US 68 West, US 79 North, and US 79 South.
