This year the annual Lewisburg Community Thanksgiving dinner will be moving to a new location and event organizer Susan Porter couldn’t be happier.

“We are so happy to announce that this year and in the years to follow the Community Thanksgiving Day dinner will be held at the Lewisburg School in the cafeteria,” said Susan Porter, one of the event’s organizers. “We are so thankful for this and want to thank superintendent Paul Mullins, school board member Ralph Cropper, principal Josh Matthews and all the board members. This is so exciting because it is a better location with better parking. We can’t wait to serve everyone!”

The event was approved to be at the school last week by the Logan County school board.

“That was an easy decision,” Mullins said. “Whenever we as a district can support our community in something like this, we will. I am so glad we can be a part of this event.”

This year will mark the fourth year for the annual event, which was held at the Lewisburg City Complex inside the old skating rink in year’s past.

Meals will also once again be delivered to those in the community who can’t get out or don’t want to attend the group dinner.

The meal is free for everyone and anyone who wants to come or have a meal delivered to their home.

“We usually serve between 400 and 600 people,” Porter said. “About half of those usually come in and eat with us and the other have have the meals delivered.”

In the past, area churches have supplied buses to both help deliver the meals and bring guests to the dinner who did not have transportation.

Porter said she is hopeful that with the better facilities for the meal that even more people will come and take part in the group fellowship of the meal.

Even though Thanksgiving is still over three months away, planning will soon begin in earnest for the meal.

“We usually start asking for food donations around the end of August,” Porter said. “We usually have the same volunteers that help us, but we will also start asking for new ones around that time too.”
