A local man lost his life Sunday, July 24, after being shot multiple times by an unknown assailant. Authorities have no witnesses at this time, but they do have theories; one of them being that this was not a random act of violence.

“The case is early in its investigation,” said Todd Raymer of the Russellville Police Department. “We do not believe at this time this was a random act. He may have been targeted.”

Twenty-nine year old Patrick “P.J.” Gilbert, of Russellville, was pronounced dead at Logan Memorial Hospital by Logan County Coroner Mary Givens after being found shot on Edwards Street next to Hampton Park in Russellville.

The Russellville Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at approximately 10:21 p.m. When the officers arrived on Edwards Street they confirmed that Gilbert had been shot by a subject that was no longer on the scene.

Gilbert was given medical attention and was transported to Logan Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounce deceased.

Detectives are currently in Louisville for the autopsy.

“We will release more information when we have it,” said Raymer.

The incident is currently under further investigation by the Russellville Police Department. Officers were assisted on scene by the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, Logan County EMS and the Russellville Fire Department.
