Josh Matthews was named the new principal of Lewisburg School on Friday, July 15.

Last year he served as the assistant principal at Olmstead under Bonnie Watson.

Matthews was chosen by the school’s site-based decision making council. He was one of four finalists to be interviewed last week for the position.

“I’m proud of the work the site based council did in their thorough search for the Lewisburg principal,” said Logan County schools superintendent Paul Mullins said. “There were four quality candidate and I thought all four were really strong and could have been chosen by the council.”

While all the candidates would have been a strong principal for Lewisburg, Matthews was the easy pick.

“When Josh exited his interview, he stood out in so many ways,” Mullins said. “He moved the council and just rose above the others in the interview process. He had a lot of energy and passion and had a very specific plan to continue to move forward.”

Matthews holds a Masters Degree in teaching from the University of the Cumberlands as well as Principal certification and ED. S from the University of the Cumberlands. He is working toward an ED.D. degree at this time.

“Being new to the area, I did not know him before I met him in the interview,” Mullins said. “I was impressed by him as a person and a leader. He’s got a tremendous skill set in leadership and came highly recommended from Olmstead. The district is excited to have him on board as the new principal.”

Matthews said he is excited to begin this new chapter of his life at Lewisburg. He will be following Randy Marcum, who retired this summer.

“I am honored and excited to be the new principal at Lewisburg,” Matthews said. “To graduate from Logan County High School and return to the district as a principal is a dream come true. Lewisburg has a great tradition and we hope to continue to build on that rich tradition.”

Mullins also praised the Lewisburg site-based council for their hard work during the selection process.

“That is the most important job a site-based council has to do,” Mullins said. “The council took the process seriously and vetted the candidates well.”

Josh Matthews is married to his wife Sharla and they have one son Anderson. They currently reside in Franklin.

With Matthews taking the job at Lewisburg, the district now has two open positions for assistant principals – one at Olmstead and one at Lewisburg.
