A traffic stop by the Russellville Police wound up with a man being arrested on multiple drug charges.
On Friday, July 3, the Russellville Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a Maroon GMC Jimmy, at the East 1st Street Family Market.
The driver was identified as Kevin Hampton. While speaking with Hampton, officer Seth Whittaker could smell the presence of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. Upon further investigation, Hampton was believed to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and was placed under arrest. During search of the vehicle, Whittaker located a large clear plastic bag with 51 unidentified pills. Also located in the vehicle was a cigar containing a green leafy substance, suspected of being marijuana. The vehicle was then seized and towed to the Russellville Police Department’s impound lot.
Hampton was arrested and charged with rear license plate non-illuminated; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol 2nd offense (aggravated circumstances); trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense (drug unspecified); possession of marijuana; drug paraphernalia; prescription controlled substance not in original container.
Hampton was transported and lodged in the Logan County Detention Center.
On Sunday, July 5, the Russellville Police Department responded to the intersection of East 4th Street and Franklin Street in reference to an accident with injuries, involving a vehicle roll over. The initial investigation concluded that Melinda Way of Russellville was traveling north on Franklin Street onto N. Franklin Street while George Allison, also of Russellville, was traveling east on East 4th Street. The two cars struck each other, resulting in Way’s vehicle rolling over.
All parties were transported to Logan Memorial Hospital for their non-life threatening injuries. The RPD was assisted by Logan County EMS, Russelville Fire Department and the Logan County Sheriffs Office.
