Daddy, daughter rescued from Red River

On May 27, 2016, at approximately 5:40 p.m., the Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded to an overturn kayak in the Red River. An adult male and a 6-year-old female were trapped in the Red River and were holding onto a branch to stay afloat.

Upon arrival, it was found that James Bellar of Russellville and his daughter were floating on the Red River in a kayak when it overturned causing both Bellar and his daughter to fall into the water.

Bellar was able to hold onto his daughter and a tree until they could be pulled to safety.

The Adairville Fire Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Department and the Logan County EMS were able to get a rope out to Bellar, which he then wrapped around himself and his daughter.

Both Bellar and his daughter were checked by the Logan County EMS.
