Kiddie Parade rides again

Photos by Donna Wilkerson Dozens of participants walk down Main Street on Saturday, July 4, as part of Russellville’s annual Kiddie Parade.

Members of the local Kiwanis Club give a short talk before the start of the parade.

Children and adults were encouraged to dress in their most patriotic fashions.

The Russellville police and fire departments once again led the parade.

Even pets were encouraged to take part and dress up.

A good time was had by all who attended the event.

One of Russellville’s most beloved small-town traditions took place over the weekend as the annual Fourth of July Kiddie Parade once again made its way from 8th Street, down Main Street and around the square with dozens of participants.

This was the fifth year that the local Kiwanis have been in charge of the parade, which was started several decades ago by Russellville residents Joyce and the late Bob Guion.

As usual, the Russellville police and fire departments, along with the Logan County EMS, were big parts of the parade.

“Thanks go out to our Russellville Police and Fire Department, our county ambulance service and the rural fire department,” said Don Firchow, one of this year’s parade chair persons. “The Kiwanis Club appreciates their willingness to be a big part of the parade.”
