Shooting near Rockfield, suspect apprehended in Logan County


A Bowling Green woman was allegedly shot by her domestic partner on Tuesday, April 26, who fled the scene and was later apprehended in Logan County.


On April 26, 2016, at approximately 11:56 a.m., Warren County Deputies responded to a report of a shooting just past the intersection of Russellville Road and Rockfield Browning Road. The initial caller advised that a black sedan had stopped on the shoulder of the roadway when a female passenger exited the vehicle and ran. According to a witness, the male then fired shots at the victim, who was later identified as 26-year-old Shadonna Coleman, 26, of Bowling Green.

The male, identified as 36-year-old James Lester, Jr. of Winona, Miss., got back into the vehicle and traveled towards Logan County on the Russellville Road.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS were dispatched and information on the run vehicle was given to surrounding agencies. A Logan County EMS ambulance happened to be passing the area of the incident when they stopped to assist. They loaded the victim and transported her to the Medical Center in Bowling Green.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle matching the description that had been given of the run vehicle, with the driver matching the description of the suspect. Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies detained the suspect.

The Kentucky State Police and the Logan County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Warren County Sheriff’s Department processing the scene and interviewing witnesses.

Through investigation it was determined that Coleman and Lester were in a domestic relationship.

The victim was listed in critical condition at the time of the incident. She was air lifted from the Medical Center in Bowling Green and was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. According to Skyline Medical Center, the victim is currently listed in stable condition at this time.

Lester has been charged with assault first degree and tampering with physical evidence. More charges are anticipated and the investigation in on-going.
