United Way of Southern Kentucky needs your help to “Feed the Need” of local food banks

United Way of Southern Kentucky is currently holding a region-wide food drive aptly titled “Feed the Need” across Allen, Barren, Butler, Hart, Logan, Simpson, and Warren counties that started in March and will end on April 30th.

“Feed the Need” was created in 2009 in response to the increased need in our communities for access to basic needs including food. After speaking with the local food pantries that benefited from the drives in previous years, it is clear that assistance in providing a Safety Net of services like access to food is needed once again this year. Therefore, companies and volunteers in these counties have the opportunity once again to help fill the shelves of local food banks by holding internal food drives. In 2015, 90 companies participated in the drives.

Since its inception, United Way’s “Feed the Need” Food Drive has collected over 360,000 non-perishable items for local food banks in Southern Kentucky.

Companies, organizations, and groups in Allen, Barren, Butler, Hart, Logan, Simpson and Warren Counties can still sign up to hold internal food drives to support this effort with drives concluding on April 30th.

Hundreds of volunteers are also needed to help with food drives at participating grocery store locations on April 29th (10am – 6pm) and 30th (9am – 1pm). All donations will benefit food banks in the county in which the donations are collected.

The benefiting food banks include Allen County Schools Family Resource Center, Barren River Area Safe Space, BRANCHES of Barren County, Community Action, Community Relief, Logan County Good Samaritan, Franklin-Simpson Good Samaritan, St. Vincent DePaul, and The Salvation Army.
