Girls… prom is right around the corner. Do you have everything you need? The dress? Shoes? Jewelry? Do you know how you are going to rock your hair that night? Well if you are still undecided and funding is a bit short, don’t miss out on “All Dressed Up 2016,” at New Life Baptist Church Saturday, April 2 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
All Dressed Up is an outreach that began in 2010 through New Life Baptist Church in Auburn. The church and many volunteers put on the event each year to minister to young girls and their families by assisting with the financial needs of attending the high school prom.
Organizers of the event work throughout the year gathering donated prom dresses, accessories and shoes, which are available for the girls to shop for free of charge. That’s right… free! In addition the girls are pampered throughout the day as they spend time with ladies doing their nails, hair and makeup. The girls then participate in a fashion show where they get to experience the spotlight. The girls can even invite their parents to see the fashion show at the end to join in on the fun.
Logan County and Russellville high school age girls who are in need of a dress for the prom, along with the accessories to match, are all invited to this exciting annual event on Saturday, April 2. Literally hundreds of dresses await you to choose from. Dresses have even come as far as a Texas boutique.
Many people volunteer their time for this event including hair dressers, make-up artists and others to pamper you and share tips and techniques. Lunch will be served along with a lot laughter. There will also be door prizes given away. Once again everything… everything is free.
Corinn Simpson is the coordinator of the event this year. This isn’t her first event, however, as she served as assistant to Melissa Jones who began the event as a mission years ago. Jones was named Hughes & Coleman’s Hometown Hero on WBKO in 2015 for her work in the All Dressed Up event.
Jones had said she understood the struggle first hand and knows what it’s like when your daughter comes in and says she’s been invited to the prom. It’s exciting but also very expensive. You’ve got the expense of prom tickets, going out to eat, the dress, the right makeup, the right accessories, shoes and you’ve gotta have the right hairstyle and nails.
“As moms we want to provide that for our daughters, who doesn’t?” said Jones. “But sometimes it’s kind of hard to do. Especially if you are a single mom.” said Jones.
Jones has handed off the baton of All Dressed Up to Simpson who is hitting the ground running, and has been working night and day to make sure the event is just as spectacular as it has been in the past.
“We are really excited about this year’s All Dressed Up. We can’t wait to share the wonderful joy of finding that perfect dress, all while sharing the love of Jesus,” said Simpson.
