Recent demolition of property can be seen located on North Main Street in Russellville, sandwiched between Captain D’s and the railroad tracts. According to Bill Pearson, Russellville’s Zoning Administrator, a possible convenience store may be coming soon.
The property, which once held the old Citgo gas station, as well as a smaller building that held many businesses from the Tobacco Barn to a laundromat, is being prepared for a new venture. The buildings were bulldozed down a few weeks ago leaving a flat piece of property ready for construction.
“I haven’t gotten the final plans yet,” said Pearson mentioning Rocket Oil out of Evansville, Ind., owns the property and have for the past four years or so. “I know their idea is to build a convenience type store with gas offered as well, but we have to wait and see what their official plans hold.”
Pearson admits he is not aware of all the plans just yet. The company went through some revisions recently due to the property so he is waiting to hear back from them. From what he does know it looks as if construction could begin sometime in the spring.
“I think this business will be good for Russellville,” Pearson said. “I hated to lose those buildings, however. The one wasn’t very old.”
