Operation Christmas Child collects 14,600 gift-filled shoeboxes from local areas

During Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week, Nov. 16-23, Russellville residents and residents from surrounding counties generously donated 14,600 gift-filled shoeboxes for children in need.

Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, is the world’s largest Christmas outreach of its kind. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to over 124 million children affected by war, poverty, natural disasters, and other crises in more than 150 countries and territories. We partner with local churches to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who receive shoebox gifts and offer a 12-lesson discipleship program, The Greatest Journey, that helps boys and girls learn what it means to follow the Lord and share their faith with others.

You can still help share God’s love with children around the world even if you don’t have time to shop for and pack an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift. With a few clicks of your mouse or swipes on your touchscreen, you can build a shoebox online. Make it your own by choosing from a list of gifts, then add a personal letter and photo. We’ll pack your shoebox and send it for you, for a suggested donation of just $25. We’ve even made it possible to challenge friends so they can join you. Or, you can purchase a gift card so they can build a shoebox online themselves. Go to samaritanspurse.org/occ and begin building.

With a computer or mobile device, anyone can still conveniently pack a personalized Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift on the Samaritan’s Purse website: samaritanspurse.org/occ.

Russellville and Logan County residents can select the age and gender of a child to help, shop through an online selection of gifts, “build” the shoebox, write a note of encouragement and upload a photo. This year these gifts will be added to those collected in nine countries so more than 11 million children can receive a personalized gift from people who want them to know they are loved and not forgotten.

Every shoebox gift delivered by Operation Christmas Child is a tangible expression of God’s amazing love. But a shoebox is just the beginning. It also presents an opportunity in more than 100 countries for our church partners to invite children into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through The Greatest Journey.
