Lions begin sale of annual pecans

A lot of cooking goes on during the holiday season and the use of pecans skyrockets during this time of year. This is good news for the Russellville Lions Club, as they have begun their fall sale of holiday pecans. The pecans come in halves, pieces and chocolate covered and are just $9 for a one pound bag.

The Russellville club has been selling pecans for over three decades as one of its largest annual fundraisers. There are currently 26 members of the Russellville Lions Club, who help children throughout the year. Proceeds raised from the sale of pecans will go to help in eye sight preservation. The club provides eye screening to all preschool age children in Logan County. This year the Lions screened 164 children.

“We support several projects throughout the year,” said Carl Foster, long-time Lions Club member. “We love our community and helping in anyway we can.”

Foster has been a Lion for 45 years. He was raised in Logan County, but left for awhile returning five years ago. He has been a Lion in Bowling Green and Madisonville as well.

Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Its 1.4 million members perform valuable services in 210 countries and geographic areas around the globe. Lions are friends, family and neighbors who share a core belief: community is what we make it. Since 1917, Lions have strengthened communities through humanitarian projects and hands-on service.

If you would like to purchase pecans from the Lion’s Club, they are available from any Lions Club member or at any Lewisburg Bank location, Pennyrile Rural Electric and the Bethel location of First Southern National Bank.

“If you see a Lion’s member and want a bag or two, just come up and ask,” said Foster. “Or if you are in the bank at Lewisburg or First Southern, just grab one to go. You can even drive up to Pennyrile’s window and ask for one, two or more. It’s as simple as that. We thank the community for their support and for helping others.”
