Russellville Independent Schools superintendent Leon Smith has announced that assistant principal Robin Cornelius will be moving to the district office in order to take over as the new instructional coach for district.
Cornelius has been the assistant to SES principal Lisa White for the past two years, but now will be working will all the teachers in the district in her new position, which she takes over from Bonnie Speaks, who left to become the assistant principal at Chandlers School in Logan County.
“Ms. Cornelius has done an incredible job with our staff at Stevenson Elementary,” Smith said. “And we feel like she can continue the strong instruction with our staff at both schools in this position.”
Russellville Independent has gone to a system of guided and planning for all teachers this school year, which has already paid big dividends for the teachers, Smith said.
“Our teachers will meet with their coaches on Thursday or Friday and discuss their lesson plans for the upcoming week,” Smith said. “It’s a very strong model and we think it will have a very big impact on our instruction and on our test scores this year.”
As an assistant principal, Cornelius had a limited amount of time she could devote to working with teachers on guided planning, but her new role allows her to do much more of that.
“This coach is working a lot with teachers,” Smith said. “This position will allow her to spend more time with the teachers than she did as an assistant principal. Ms. Cornelius is a very solid educator and very eager to learn. We’re very proud to have her.”
In the meantime, the assistant principal job at Stevenson Elementary will be posted and filled in the coming weeks.
