Grace Ann Warren is at it again, and this time she is trying to get enough toys donated she will need a semi-truck to deliver them all.
Grace Ann is a little girl from Adairville, who has big plans for those children who are stuck in the hospital during Christmas. She begins collecting toys early in the year as part of her “Christmas Wish” to be able to get enough where each child can get one at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
For Grace Ann this is a mission that is near and dear to her heart… literally, since she herself spent Christmas in the hospital when she was smaller, having to have open heart surgery to repair five holes in her heart. Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital is where she was, and this is one of the reasons she chose the location she did.
Grace Ann has been collecting toys for kids in the hospital for three years now. She is getting an early start this year, said her mother. She and a couple friends were set up in the front yard recently selling pictures they had drawn to raise money to buy toys.
“We are so proud of how big her heart is,” said her mother Alice Warren.
Alice and Donnie Warren encourage their daughter to follow her dreams, and help her achieve her goals as much as possible. They both feel Grace Ann’s dedication to others makes them just about as proud as a parent could be.
“We had a yard sale where people had donated used toys and items. The money raised Grace Ann used to buy new toys. It made it more special for her to sell her stuff too,” said mom.
One of the newest ideas Grace Ann came up with to help generate funding was to design and sell t-shirts.
“We hope that these shirts go over well and help bring some funds in while providing an awesome and stylish shirt for people to wear,” said Alice.
Donnie’s employer Bluegrass Supply Chain Services has said if Grace Ann can get enough donations this year, they will donate a semi and trailer to help deliver them. So the push is on.
“We know how we felt when Grace Ann was in the hospital, and our hearts go out to the families that have to be there over the holidays or anytime,” said Alice. “Grace Ann hopes with the help of the community, to bring a little happiness to them all.”
