There is a lot of news in the media about guns and there is clearly different views on how to deal with guns in our society. Recently the President made some decisions about how he wants to have tighter gun controls by having more restrictions especially with background checks. Once President Obama made his speech – the social media was full of responses of all types – positive and negative.
Many of the people in America feel that the freedom to have Guns provides them with more security and the ability to fight back or at least shoot back if necessary. Some others believe that if there are less Guns on the street, there will be less violence and less lives lost. The fight is far from over and it is sure to be a heated debate during the upcoming Presidential election this year.
As a Christian, Pastor and a individual that has my Concealed Deadly Weapon License properly received from the great state of Kentucky, I think! We may debate the issue of Guns and Gun Control. And people certainly do not agree with each other on all the issues surrounding Guns. But as a Christian where should my security truly come from? It may surprise some, but it is not from Guns, Police, Friends, Walls or any other man-made object. Ultimately, my security comes from God!
Psalm 46:1-2 states:
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
Psalm 91:2 states:
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
With or without my guns – as a Christian I have the security of my God. He is my personal Savior and Lord but He is also my protector in whom I trust. And even when my faith is weak and my doubts are strong – He is watching over me. I may even find myself overcome with fear at some point, but He never backs down or goes away. He is my Rock and my strength!
If you have Guns or if you chose not to have guns – may the God of Creation, the God of Abraham-Isaac-Jacob, God Father, Son-Jesus and Holy Spirit become personal and powerful in your life. And if you ever have questions – please do not hesitate to contact me or one of the other Christian Pastors or Lay-people in the area – regardless if they have a gun or not!
