Longs celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

Billie and Betty Long celebrated their 65th anniversary at Lighthouse Landing in Grand Rivers as a gift from their six children, who also accompanied them on their special day.

The children are Cindy Colston and husband Jeff, Susie Axtell, David Long and wife Patricia, Tim Long and wife Penny, Kathy Harper and husband Jim and Barb Wester and husband Ric.

Everyone agreed this was the most enjoyable time together and a great time was had by all.

Billie and Betty were married Aug. 5, 1950, at the First Baptist Church in Greenville. Brother R.M. Gabbert was the minister performing the ceremony.

Mr. Long is a retired engineer for C.S.X. Railroad. Mrs. Long worked in the lunchroom of Hughes Kirk High School for 12 years while the children were in school there.

For the Long’s 50th anniversary the children sent them to Las Vegas, “but they came back…haha.” A new porch was added to their home as a secret gift. It just keeps getting better as the years go by, said the couple.
