“Everything but the kitchen sink,” is how Becky Evans-Boden describes what can be found in her new store, Consign Design.
Located in an old log cabin on Ninth Street, the items in the store are as interesting as the building itself. Evans-Boden said some people who come in do so just because they’ve always wanted to see inside the building.
“They’re more than welcome to just come in,” Evans-Boden said. “Stop by and have a cup of tea with me is what I say.”
Consign Design features a wide selection of interior decor, collectibles, art, furniture and much more. Though it is not an antique store, Evans-Boden admits that “it lends itself to antiques because of the cabin.”
At the entrance of the shop in the foyer, Evans-Boden will feature seasonal items and designs.
“Everything is set up in kind of vignettes and in groupings,” she explained. And the prices range from $4.99 to $1,100.
“I like everybody to be able to take home a treasure,” Evans-Boden added.
With music playing in the background and tea ready to be served, Evans-Boden said she wants people to feel comfortable in her shop.
Evans-Boden and her husband, Jim, have lived in Auburn for around five years. Before moving here, they lived in Colorado. Evans-Boden said they came to Kentucky to visit friends in Morgantown and “I just fell in love,” she said.
She had owned an operated an interior decorating business and has always enjoyed interior design. She had worked at a clothing consignment store in Bowling Green but wanted to get back to the furnishing end of things.
Evans-Boden said she had looked at the cabin a while back as a possible shop, but it wasn’t available at the time. When she saw it was open once again, she went for it.
“My husband thought I was crazy,” Evans-Boden said and admits that is has been an adventure.
The cabin is at least 100 years old and has been many things, including a tattoo parlor, rental property and home of Kennedy Plumbing. Evans-Boden said she would really like to know more about the history of the building and if anyone knows more, please contact her. She would like to be able to give people who stop by that information.
The old cabin is now filled throughout with items for sale that include a little bit of everything: artwork, lamps, linens, kitchen utensils, glasses and plates, furniture and more.
Evans-Boden said she is taking new consigners and especially needs furniture. She doesn’t take clothes or electronics and encourages anyone interested in consigning to stop by to get a feel for the shop.
In looking for items for the shop herself, Evans-Boden said she likes to try to find things locally. She said one of her favorite mottos is “the greenest product is the one that already exists.
Consign Design opened around the first of June during the 400 Mile Yard Sale. She said she’s had many people stop by and she wants to thank Russellville and Logan County for being so good to her.
She hopes even more people will come by for a visit and just enjoy looking around.
“It’s a kind of visual vacation,” Evans-Boden said of her shop.
Consign Design is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 726-2622.
