U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and State Senator David Givens are among the featured speakers for Kentucky Farm Bureau’s 90th annual meeting December 2-5 at the Galt House Hotel. Priorities include setting policy goals for the 2010 General Assembly session and establishing a wish list for Congressional action next year.

McConnell, the U.S. Senate Minority Leader; and Givens, the chairman of the Kentucky Senate Agriculture Committee, will address a crowd of more than a thousand Kentucky farmers at a December 5 breakfast. In other convention activities, the state’s Outstanding Young Farm Family will be announced, awards will be given for county Farm Bureau achievements and top farm leaders will be recognized for distinguished service.

Numerous extension and agricultural specialists will be on hand for commodity and special interest conferences on December 3 Among the topics are forages, beef cattle, tobacco, horticulture, feed grains, natural resources, dairy and farm labor. A special conference at 3:30 that afternoon will focus on animal care issues.

KFB President Mark Haney will present an annual address on the morning of the 4th, just prior to the announcement of this year’s recipients of the distinguished service awards for Farm Bureau and Kentucky agriculture.

Some of the key issues include climate change legislation, animal care issues, health care reforms, maintaining funding for Kentucky’s agricultural development initiative and farm labor programs.
