Magistrate Dickie Carter made a motion at the Tuesday, Oct. 27th Fiscal Court meeting to drop the $15 monthly charge to those who utilize the recycling crew to pick up cardboard at their businesses.
Carter said some are being charged while others are not.
“Some use the service weekly while some only once in a while. I don’t understand why those people are being charged,” said Carter who felt the charge needed to be dropped. Magistrate Thomas Bouldin agreed and seconded Carter’s motion which passed with a unanimous vote.
Because some have prepaid for the service, the change will not be effective until Jan. 1, 2010. If there are businesses that would like for the county to continue to pick up their cardboard it will now be fee of charge.
• Stan Kramer of First Kentucky Securities Corporation addressed Fiscal Court on Tuesday about refinancing the county’s Detention Center debt. After a lengthy presentation by Kramer on how his corporation could save the county money, the court tabled the issue for its next meeting in two weeks.
• Magistrate Curtis Watkins gave a committee report at the meeting on purchasing a roll up door and two concrete posts at the county’s recycling center. Watkins said he received two bids on the roll door which when installed will save on heating costs at the center by closing in more of the inside.
The two bids were from Knight Electric for $4,300 and from Junior Ingram for $1,895. Watkins said he recommended Mr. Ingram for the job. He also gave two quotes from the same companies to put in two steel/concrete posts which will help alleviate trucks backing into the building or the new roll door. Knight Electric was $450 and Ingram was $225. The court voted to allow both bids to Ingram.
