For the first time in over 11 years, the Russellville Police Department is investigating a suspected homicide in the city limits.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, the RPD responded to a call at 524 Rhea Blvd. to investigate a possible homicide. Upon arriving at the residence, the body of 36-year-old Brad Rigney was discovered.

Rigney, who was deaf, lived alone at the Rhea Blvd. residence. His body was first found by his brother and sister-in-law, who then called 911.

An autopsy was performed on Sunday, Dec. 29 and the preliminary indication was that Rigney had died from blunt force trauma to the head. Final results of the autopsy are still pending.

No arrests have been made yet and the Russellville Police Department is asking that anyone with information about the murder call 726-7669 or Crimestoppers at 726-5050.

The last murder that occurred in Russellville was the double homicide of sisters Jessica and Hanna Key in December of 2002. Derrick Loving was convicted of that crime and sentenced to life in prison with the eligibility of parole after 20 years.

A murder occured in Logan County, but outside of Russellville in April of 2012 when 46-year-old Dale Holloway was killed at his home on T. McReynolds Road. Timothy Claytor has been charged with that crime, but is still awaiting trial as the case goes through the judicial system.
