Former senator arrested for DUI

October 7, 2013

Former Kentucky Senator Joey Pendleton was charged on Aug. 14, 2013, with driving under the influence (DUI). According to reports, Pendleton collided with a tractor-trailer truck in Anderson County a little after 9 p.m.

Pendleton (D) served five terms in the 3rd District before being ousted last year by Whitney Westerfield (R).

Pendleton’s blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit when he was arrested on the Bluegrass Parkway after striking the truck. Anderson County Deputies allegedly found an open bottle of alcohol in his vehicle. According to a citation, the former senator failed several sobriety tests.

Pendleton was charged with driving under the influence and driving with an open container and was lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center. He was released the next day.

This is the second time Pendleton has been arrested for driving under the influence. In 2001, while serving as state senator, he was arrested in Frankfort with a .206 blood-alcohol content.
