Active Day of Russellville celebrated National Adult Day Care week this week. The theme was “Down on the Farm.”
Tammy Dauley, center director, scheduled several activities throughout the week that coincided with the farm theme. “Every year we pick a different theme for National Adult Day Care week,” said Dauley.
Those who come to the center enjoyed pigs-in-a-blanket on pig day and watched Babe the movie. Each day was targeted towards a specific animal. For example Tuesday was chicken day, so there was an egg toss, chicken craft, the Chicken Run movie and participants made omelets.
Other activities included apple bobbing, horse shoes, feed bag relay, barnyard dance, etc. They even had animal tattoos for brand the horse.”We even made homemade butter,” said Dauley.
Dauley had planned on a visit from a horse and chicken, unfortunately that did not pan out, however, there was a very exciting visit from a potbelly pig and participants got to spend time holding it.
Active Day/Senior Care adult health centers were founded in 1995 and 1988, respectively, and merged in 2011 to become the largest and most trusted provider of adult day health services in the United States. They have over 75 locations across the country to help families successfully manage the responsibility of caring for an elderly or frail adult who is living at home, while enhancing the quality of life for those individuals in need of care. The programs are designed to meet the needs of elderly and disabled adults and their caregivers by providing cost-effective alternatives to nursing home or institutional care that promotes the client’s ability to remain independent.
