The first ever Russellville High School girls' soccer team was recognized last week by the Russellville Independent Board of Education.

The Russellville High School girls' soccer team was recognized last week by the Russellville Independent Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting for being the first ever all-girls soccer team in school history.

The team also recently had its awards banquet and gave all the girls on a team a medal for taking part in the first team in school history and also a plaque that commemorated the first ever victory in the program's history.

Individual awards were also handed out. Senior Brooklyn Ray was given the award for Defensive Most Valuable Player. Senior Jayce Buchner was given the award for Offensive Most Valuable Player. Junior Marta Hughes was given the most improved player award. And freshman Emily Stapleton was given the Panther Award. Freshman Anastasia Dowlen was also honored with a plaque for scoring the first goal in program history and Buchner was given an award for having the first assist in program history.

The team was coached by Eric Evans and Monica Rust VanDrew.
