Adam Decker, a former Logan County teacher and coach at Chandlers Middle School, pled guilty in Logan County Circuit Court on Thursday, Aug. 2, to numerous sexual crimes against underage students.

Although Decker admitted to these crimes, he is out of jail on a $50,000 cash bond until his final sentencing on Oct. 10.

Decker pled guilty last week to third degree rape, third degree sodomy, third degree sexual abuse, two counts of possession portraying a sexual performance by a minor, two counts of distribution of obscene matter to minors and use of an electronic communications system to procure a minor in a reference to a sex offense.

Decker was arrested July 18, 2017, after he turned himself into authorities who had listed him as a fugitive from justice because they could not locate him after being indicted two weeks prior.

Decker agreed Thursday to a 12-year deal offered by the Commonwealth

Attorney's Office. As part of his plea agreement, Decker must undergo sex offender treatment before becoming eligible for parole. He will also be listed on the as a lifetime offender on the sexual offender registry.

"The maximum penalty for the charges to which Mr. Decker pled guilty to is 20 years," said Justin Crocker, acting Commonwealth Attorney for Logan-Todd counties. "This plea agreement with a 12-year sentence guarantees that Mr. Decker will have multiple felony convictions on his record, requires him to serve a significant prison sentence, ensures that he will be on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life, prevents him from teaching in a public school system again, as well as provides closure to the juvenile victims who will not have to testify and relive the experience in a very public jury trial."

Crocker further stated that the victims, family members, and Kentucky State Police detective participated throughout the process and were present in the courtroom when the guilty plea was entered.

Along with being an educator, Decker was the former assistant baseball coach at Logan County High School and served as the boy's basketball coach at Chandlers. Decker had resigned from the Logan County School System in February of 2017.
